The town of Collinsville, Alabama is honoring ALL veterans with a memorial composed of native stone columns standing on a brick field. Bricks may be purchased for any veteran from any state. At first glance the memorial appears to be a group of stone blocks standing on brick pedestals. As you draw near, several things become apparent. The stones are standing in a field of brick pavers. Mixed within the brick field you will notice lighter colored brick with the names of those who have, or are now, serving in our military. As you walk around the memorial on the sidewalk surrounding the brick field you will notice the stones are of different heights and widths. Each stone has the emblem of one of our branches of service etched into it. You will see that the etched side of the stone is facing outward from the flag which is located in the center of the memorial. This represents our military being ever vigilant, protecting our country. These stones were quarried here in Collinsville and, being native stones, represent our native sons and daughters who have served so well. As you continue around to the front of the memorial you will be drawn to a stone that is not in the same symmetry as the others and also is broken. This stone is placed in such a way as to cause you to reflect that some gave their all and fell in battle. The stone lies as it does to help you realize the finality of their devotion. On the broken piece of the stone are etched the names of those from Collinsville who were killed in action. As you leave the memorial, you will take with you a deeper understanding of the individuality of each veteran and the spirit that unites them as they continue to serve our country.
Please help us with this very important task, while honoring your veteran(s), past or present, by purchasing a brick(s) in his or her name(s) or by making a donation.
